SOLUDO’S AGENDA RESHAPES ANAMBRA SINCE 2022

‎By Chizoba Njaka

‎Since assuming office on March 17, 2022, and securing re-election in November 2025, Governor Chukwuma Soludo has pushed a sweeping agenda to transform Anambra State from what he calls a “departure lounge” into a prosperous, livable mega city state.

‎The administration’s early focus was on security. Several local government areas were under the control of criminal gangs when Soludo took over. His government responded by establishing the Agunechemba security outfit, enacting the Homeland Security Law, and launching coordinated operations that reclaimed affected areas and restored relative law and order across the state.

‎Infrastructure has also featured prominently. Hundreds of kilometers of roads have been constructed across Anambra’s three senatorial zones. In a landmark move since the state’s creation in 1991, the administration began building a permanent, purpose-built Government House and Executive Council Secretariat in Awka.

‎In education and healthcare, Soludo abolished tuition and fees in public primary and junior secondary schools. To address the long-standing “schools without teachers” problem, the state recruited over 8,000 new teachers. On healthcare, the government introduced free antenatal care and delivery services for women in public hospitals.

‎Youth empowerment and economic growth have been targeted through the Solution Innovation District and the “One-Youth-Two-Skills” program. Thousands of young people have been trained in digital and vocational skills, while billions of naira in seed funding have been disbursed to support small and medium enterprises.

‎The administration has also drawn attention for its fiscal approach. Officials say efforts to block revenue leakages have allowed the state to fund large-scale projects without undermining financial stability.

‎Soludo’s vision centers on making Anambra a hub where people choose to live, work, and invest, rather than a state residents pass through on their way elsewhere. With two terms in office, the administration is now focused on consolidating these projects and expanding their impact across the state.
