PROF. OKUNNA HONOURED WITH LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AT 2026 AMTY AWARDS

Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna, the first female Prof. of Mass Communication in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa, has been presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2026 Anambra Man of the Year (AMTY) Awards.
The accolade was bestowed during a colourful ceremony at Stanel Dome, Awka, on July 18, in recognition of Prof. Okunna’s outstanding contributions to journalism, mass communication education, academic excellence, and national development. Currently serving as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) of Paul University, Awka, she received a standing ovation from guests as she accepted the honour.
Celebrated as a pioneer in her field, Prof. Okunna has spent decades mentoring students, advancing media education, conducting influential research, and promoting professionalism in journalism across Nigeria and beyond. Organisers described the award as a well-deserved salute to her remarkable achievements, exemplary leadership, and enduring impact on education and the media industry.
Dignitaries, academics, media practitioners, government officials, and other guests at the ceremony praised Prof. Okunna as an inspiration to women, scholars, and future generations. The Lifetime Achievement Award further enriches a long list of honours for the distinguished scholar, whose work continues to shape Mass Communication education and inspire excellence across the African continent.
