OMASI MONARCH CANVASSES DEMARCATION OF ANAMBRA-ENUGU BORDER

By Michael Ezenwata :

To ensure lasting peace between Anambra and its Enugu  sister state, the traditional ruler of Omasi, Igwe Benjamin Okeji has called for the demarcation of the land border between Omasi,Igga and Esiama Adani communities in Enugu State.

According to a press statement issued by the traditional ruler in Awka, the 10,381 (ten thousand three hundred and eighty one) acres of  land acquired by the Eastern Nigerian Government in 1962, gave birth to Omasi housing, a farm settlement acquiring 6,453 acres, Eziama Adani acquiring 1,951 acres and Igga acquiring 1,977 acres respectively.

Igwe Okeji urged the Anambra State Government to facilitate the  demarcation process which delay over the years, has caused avoidable loss of many lives occasioned by series of communal clashes among the affected communities.

To make the matter worse, the royal father reported the incursion of Fulani Herdsmen resulting to the destruction of farms in Omasi. He threatened that Omasi community will join Enugu State if the border demarcation exercise is not done.

Igwe Okeji used the forum to congratulate the traditional ruler of Obosi, Igwe Chidubem Iweka for his appointment as the new Chairman of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council.

The royal father commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for the justifiable appointment, expecting the chairman to do more to attract more welfare packages for the state traditional rulers.
