By Maureen Agbala

The Anambra State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Chukwukadibia Okoye, has inaugurated the Medium-Term Sector Strategy (MTSS) Sector Planning Teams and Sector Technical Working Groups for the Economic and Social Sectors, describing the initiative as a major step towards strengthening strategic planning and public expenditure management in the state.

The inauguration, held on June 17 at the Head of Service Hall, Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka, brought together Permanent Secretaries, directors, heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), development partners and other stakeholders in the state’s planning and budgeting process.

Speaking at the event, Okoye said the teams would help shape Anambra’s development priorities for the 2027–2029 planning cycle, ensuring that government resources are directed towards impactful programmes and projects, explaining that the MTSS serves as a critical link between development priorities, the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and the annual budget process, promoting evidence-based planning and sustainable development.

The commissioner reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo’s administration to data-driven decision-making, improving service delivery. He noted that while the sector planning teams would provide strategic oversight, the technical working groups would handle data collection, sector analysis, project costing, monitoring and evaluation.

In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Mrs. Chinyere Nwabachili, described the inauguration as a key phase in preparing the state’s 2027–2029 MTSS, saying the process would strengthen coordination among MDAs, supporting the development of realistic, fiscally responsible and results-oriented sector strategies.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Head of Service, Barr. Nkiru Nwankwo, urged members of the teams to approach the assignment with dedication and professionalism, expressing confidence that their work would enhance planning, budgeting and public service delivery across the state.
