OGBARU LGA MARKS CHILDREN’S DAY WITH AWARDS, EDUCATION PLEDGES IN ATANI

The Ogbaru Local Government Area on Thursday joined the rest of Nigeria in commemorating the 2026 Children’s Day celebration, with a colourful ceremony held in Atani that featured school competitions, cultural displays, and awards for outstanding institutions.
The event was hosted by the Chairman of Ogbaru LGA, Hon. Sir Ken Akwuobi (Okwuluora), who used the occasion to reaffirm the commitment of the Anambra State Government to the welfare and education of children.
Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Akwuobi noted that Governor Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo has made children’s education a top priority, citing the administration’s policy of free and compulsory education from early childhood through junior secondary school, as well as the recruitment of over 5,000 teachers across the state.
Also speaking at the event, Mr. Charles Okonkwo, a representative of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), warned teachers and students against the dangers of drug abuse. He urged students to remain focused on their studies in order to make their parents and teachers proud, emphasising that good health remains the foundation of a productive life.
Seventeen schools participated in the day’s competitions. Award winners were as follows:
Secondary School Category
- 1st Place: King Ambassador Secondary School, Atani
- 2nd Place: Community Secondary School, Yiowa
- 3rd Place: Ogbaru High School, Ogbakuba
Primary School Category
- 1st Place: Okpoko 3 Primary School
- 2nd Place: Augustina Primary School
- 3rd Place: Kieke Community Primary School
Cultural Dance Category
- 1st Place: Central School, Atani
- 2nd Place: Okpoko 3 Primary School
- 3rd Place: Community Primary School
Among the dignitaries who graced the occasion were Hon. Barr. Chukwunowo Nwaebili, who also represented Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze; His Royal Highness Igwe Nelson of Ossomala; Naval Commander Mr. Danjuma; and officials of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
