PHILANTHROPIST G.U. OKEKE DONATES CLASSROOMS, N100M TO BOOST EDUCATION IN ANAMBRA

Chief Godwin U. Okeke, a renowned philanthropist, has donated a block of five classrooms and pledged N20 million annually over five years for scholarships to support inclusive secondary education in Anambra State.

The new classrooms were officially handed over to Archbishop Onyemelukwe Grammar School, Oroma Etiti, in Anambra West Local Government Area, as part of celebrations marking Chief Okeke’s 77th and his wife’s 72nd birthdays. The event also included the foundation laying ceremony of All Saints Anglican Church in the community.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chief Okeke emphasized his commitment to promoting secondary education in underserved rural areas. He explained that Oroma Etiti was deliberately chosen to provide students with quality education in a conducive environment, with the aim of driving grassroots development.

In line with this vision, Chief Okeke announced plans to transform the community from a hub of farm produce into an agro processing zone, creating opportunities for local youths. A leading figure in the transport sector, he noted that his donation seeks to draw attention to the educational needs of the community and inspire collective action to improve access to quality education.

“The model represents a vision for improved secondary education infrastructure and demonstrates what can be achieved through collective support,” he said. “This year, our focus is on enhancing access to quality secondary education in Oroma Etiti. I invite stakeholders to join us in expanding educational opportunities for future generations.”

Chief Okeke also appealed to all stakeholders to provide additional support and facilities to further enhance the school.

Dedicating the classrooms, the Anglican Bishop of Niger East Diocese, Rt. Rev. Obiora Uzochukwu, thanked God for granting the benefactor the grace to undertake the project. He commended Chief Okeke for supporting both the school and church projects, describing the gestures as impactful services to humanity and effective means of spreading the gospel.

Other donors, including Chief Dozie Chukwudolue and Felix Uduaka, called for continued support to elevate the standard of education in the community.

Dr. Emeka Okeke, son of the celebrants, explained that the educational initiatives were part of activities to commemorate their parents’ birthdays, highlighting the family’s commitment to community development and humanitarian service.
