HOLY TRINITY, IBA POPE CONCLUDES 2026 LAITY WEEK, HIGHLIGHTS CHRISTIAN VALUES AND COMMUNITY SERVICE

The Catholic faithful of Holy Trinity Parish, Iba Pope, Awada, in Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra State, have concluded the 2026 edition of their Laity Week celebration. The five-day spiritual and educational programme was convened to reinforce Christian values and advance community development.
The event, held from May 30 to June 3, 2026, attracted a substantial turnout of parishioners drawn from the parish’s four constituent communities: Immaculate Heart, St. Francis, St. Pope John Paul II, and St. Vincent.
Five resource persons delivered scholarly presentations on critical themes, including Human Dignity, The Common Good, Solidarity, Subsidiarity, Stewardship, and Indecent Dressing and Its Implications for Society.
Delivering a lecture on “The Common Good,” Evangelist Ifeanyi Ikwuagwu charged Christians to deploy their gifts, talents, wealth, and influence for the benefit of others. He observed that God’s creation was ordained for the good of all humanity. He further maintained that selfless service, unity of purpose, and sacrifice are fundamental to building a just and progressive society. He cautioned that the neglect of the common good frequently precipitates corruption, insecurity, and moral decadence.
The Parish Laity Council Chairman, Mayor Nnamdi Amuziem, described the programme as highly successful. He commended the quality of lectures and the impressive level of participation. He noted that since 2022, the parish has adopted a community-based competitive format for Laity Week, which has significantly enhanced engagement. Trophies will be conferred on outstanding communities upon the announcement of final results.
Mayor Amuziem disclosed that the week will culminate in a thanksgiving Mass and a charitable visit to an orphanage, in keeping with the parish’s commitment to love and service. He also expressed gratitude to the parish clergy, particularly the Parish Priest, Very Rev. Fr. Marcel Chukwunonye, and the Vicar, Rev. Fr. Vincent Chukwuka, for their unwavering dedication to the spiritual and moral formation of the faithful.
