ANAMBRA@35: OJUKWU REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABLE URBAN PLANNING, GREENER COMMUNITIES

By Chukwuка Ugokwe

‎The Anambra State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Barr. Chijioke Ojukwu, has felicitated Governor Chukwuma Soludo and the people of the state as Anambra marks its 35th anniversary, reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to sustainable urban planning and environmental protection. Barr. Ojukwu conveyed his goodwill message in a statement made available to newsmen on Aug. 28, in Awka.

‎He commended the ongoing efforts of the state government to reposition Anambra, particularly its renewed focus on environmental sustainability and responsible urban development. According to him, the government’s emphasis on environmental protection reflects the growing demand among stakeholders for proactive measures to safeguard the environment and promote sustainable development.

‎He noted that the initiative further highlights the strong link between environmental protection, sustainable physical planning and the long-term development of communities across the state. “As Anambra continues to experience rapid urbanisation, the Ministry emphasises the need for development to take place within a properly planned and environmentally responsible framework.

‎Sustainable urban growth requires not only the provision of infrastructure but also the protection of green spaces, responsible land use, proper drainage systems and strict adherence to planning regulations,” he said.

‎Barr. Ojukwu urged Ndi Anambra to take seriously Governor Soludo’s concerns over environmental degradation, stressing that human activities contribute significantly to flooding and gully erosion across the state.

‎He therefore reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting the administration’s environmental agenda through effective land-use planning, development control, enforcement of planning standards and promotion of sustainable urban development.

‎The commissioner also commended the state government for the tree-planting exercise, describing it as a practical demonstration of its commitment to building communities where development and environmental sustainability can thrive together.
