The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon.Somtochukwu Udeze has been elected the Vice Chairman, South East Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria.

The Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria had elected new leaders that would continue to pilot the affairs of the Conference which represents the collective interest of various State Legislatures toward ensuring a robust legislative institution aimed at promoting the rule of law and good governance in the country.

The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon.Dennis Guwor was elected the Chairman of the Conference held in Abuja.

Other five Vice Chairmen elected to represent the country’s geopolitical zones included Rt. Hon. Bilaminu Ismael, Zamfara State (North West); Rt. Hon. Mohammed Abubakar, Gombe State (North East); Rt. Hon. Yusuf Umar, Kogi State (North Central); Rt. Hon. Abraham Ngobere, Bayelsa State (South South); and Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, Ekiti State (South West).

Speaking shortly after his election as the Vice Chairman, South East Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria, the Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeze thanked the Conference for finding him worthy to serve the country and South East zone in such exalted legislative position.

Udeze pledged to use his wealth of experience as a three-time elected legislator and Speaker to promote legislative excellence and leadership.

He assured the people of South East zone of his preparedness to champion a collective legislation that will foster regional development among the five States of the South East in line with the guiding principles of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria.

He, however, solicited for support from his colleagues, Governors of the South East as well as the Nigerian masses to carry out the work effectively.
