The Anambra State Chapter of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) has received the Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs. Esther Chinyere Onyekesi, as a Very Senior Ambassador and strategic partner in its campaign against cultism, substance abuse, bullying, cybercrime and other social vices affecting young people.
According to a statement issued to journalists in Awka on August 7 by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the appointment forms part of the command’s ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration with key stakeholders in promoting safer communities and protecting children, teenagers and other vulnerable groups across the state.
The statement noted that the partnership is aimed at deepening cooperation between the Nigeria Police Force and the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare in advancing preventive measures against social vices and enhancing community-based interventions.
Leading the POCACOV delegation, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Francisca Egbunike underscored the Ministry’s critical role in family and community development through advocacy, counselling, youth empowerment, protection of vulnerable persons and early intervention programmes designed to steer young people away from criminal activities and other harmful influences.
Responding, Mrs. Onyekesi commended the initiative and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to sustaining a strong partnership with the Nigeria Police Force through POCACOV. She pledged the Ministry’s continued support for programmes aimed at preventing cultism, substance abuse, bullying, cybercrime and other anti-social behaviours among children, teenagers and youths.
The Anambra State Police Command, through POCACOV, also called on parents, traditional rulers, religious leaders, community leaders, schools, youth organisations, civil society groups and other stakeholders to work closely with the Police in building a safer, more responsible and crime-free society.
