FRSC, ANAMBRA EDUCATION MINISTRY TO JOIN FORCES ON ROAD SAFETY IN SCHOOLS

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra State has called for stronger collaboration with the State Ministry of Education to promote road safety awareness and standards in schools.

The Sector Commander, Joyce Nnenna Alexander made the appeal when the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, paid a courtesy visit to the FRSC Sector Command in Awka.

Alexander said the collaboration was necessary to implement road safety education, establish road safety clubs, organize road safety weeks, and standardize school buses in line with national and international best practices.

She noted that Anambra has yet to include road safety education in its school curriculum, as directed by the Federal Ministry of Education. She also expressed concern that many school buses across the country still fail to meet safety standards, with children often overcrowded or sitting on each other’s laps.

“Our strategy is to catch them young. When pupils are trained, they become safety ambassadors who can even remind their parents of road safety rules.”

Responding, Prof. Chuma-Udeh commended the FRSC for its efforts in road safety enlightenment and assured the Ministry’s readiness to partner with the Corps in school-based campaigns to protect lives on Anambra roads.
