Prof. Sylvia Chika Ifemeje
State Attorney General & Commissioner for Justice
Professor Sylvia Chika Ifemeje is the current Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Anambra State. She holds a Ph.D. degree in Law. Before her political appointment, she was the immediate past Dean of the Faculty of Law at Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
She is a professor of international repute who has written over sixty scholarly articles in both international and regional reputable journals. She has also authored many law books. She has successfully supervised over thirty master’s and Ph.D. students. She is a post-graduate external examiner for Nigerian and foreign universities. She has assessed over twenty candidates aspiring for professional ranks.
She has also brought her wealth of knowledge to bear through several innovations she introduced in the Anambra State Ministry of Justice, including the establishment of virtual hearing facilities in twenty High Courts and four Correctional Centers in criminal matters in Anambra State.
She has facilitated the passage of a bill by the Anambra State House of Assembly for a State Multi-Door Courthouse, the creation of a specialized court to expeditiously deal with children and sexual offenders both at the Magistrate Court and High Court, the Amendment of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL) 2022, the Magistrate Court Law 2022, the adoption of the NAPTIP 2023 work plan as a working document, which led to the establishment of a task on Human Trafficking, installed solar equipment and battery storage in thirty High Courts in Anambra State, as well as installed E-Law Pavilion software and Nigerian weekly reports and indexes for Law Officers in the State.
