Government collaborates with World Bank/NCDC to organise training for health workers on COVID-19

Awka, Sept. 28, 2020 (MOI) Anambra State Government in collaboration with World Bank and Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has organised training for health workers in the state on COVID-19 pandemic prevention, control and safety.
The training, which commenced since Sept. 24 in Awka, were being executed in batches.
Health workers undergoing the training are Safe Burial Team, Medical Lab Scientists and Ambulance drivers.
Speaking during flag-off of the training, Commissioner for Health, Dr Vincent Okpala said that it was a World Bank/NCDC Project on COVID-19 Response, prevention control and safety measures.
Dr Okpala explained that the training would go a long way in helping the health workers, who were front liners in the fight against the pandemic not to contract the disease while discharging their duties.
``The fight is not a child’s play that is the reason why the World Bank/NCDC is supporting us to organise this training, which will be run simultaneous with trainees shared into batches.’’
He commended the World Bank/NCDC for their efforts in ensuring that health workers were well protected when saving the lives of others.
``We have teams from NCDC and World Bank monitoring the training and we are happy that this is going well and hopefully we will achieve its objective at the end.
``Medical Lab Scientists are to undergo the following training, Surveillance on COVID-19 response, Introduction to Surveillance Outbreak Response Management and Analysis System (SORMAS), Sample Collection, Packaging, Storage and Transportation.
``While Ambulance Drivers, Safe Burial team and Ward COVID-19 Action team are also undergoing training on Infectious Prevention Control, Basics of COVID-19 pandemic, Transmission based precautions; Contact, Droplet and Airborne.
``Donning, Doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), making the right PPE choices, Handling of dead bodies and safe burials.’’ (MOI)
