Obosi (Idemili North LGA), Feb. 13, 2021 (MOI) Chairman of Ito Ogbo Obosi Committee, Mr Chinedu Nwogem, says Obosi Community is prepared for the celebration of Ito Ogbo Cultural Festival on March 6, by Octogenarians.
Nwogem gave the assurance during a General Meeting of members of the Ito Ogbo Obosi Committee, which took place at Obosi Town Hall.
He pledged that the ceremonies would be hitch-free and would be done following the COVID-19 safety regulations.
“Obosi people are prepared for their Ito Ogbo festival which is a feature for all those who have attained 80 and above. It is our cultural heritage, which is celebrated every three years by octogenarians.
“However, the second wave of COVID-19 is giving the planning committee concerns. We are making efforts to ensure strict compliance with government regulations to avoid any form of casualties,’’ Nwogem said.
He narrated that the festival would take place between March 1 and March 7, culminating in the crowning of celebrators with red caps on March 6, by Igwe Chidubem Iweka of Obosi.
“It will be a weeklong event that will feature traditional wrestling, masquerade dances, football matches, and lectures on longevity, climaxing with the crowning of the octogenarians with red caps and certificates.
Mr Nwogem added that the periodic cultural festival, which dates back to four hundred years ago, is important to the celebrators and Obosi town.
“We have almost 200 of Igwebuike Age Grade to be capped. So the occasion is quite important to the individuals and the town in general,’’ Nwogem said. (MOI)
