Akpo (Aguata LGA), Feb. 5, 2021 (MOI) President-General, Akpo Development Association (ADA), Chief Henry Dim has enjoined teachers to be strict and courageous in enforcing COVID-19 protocols in their schools.

Although schools officially opened on Jan. 18 but classes commenced on Feb. 1.

He said this while interacting with newsmen shortly after inspecting some of the schools that had resumed classes at Akpo, Aguata Local Government Area (LGA).

The PG said: “the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic made nonsense of doubts about its existence; the argument that it is not sickness of the blacks or Africans is gone.

“The pandemic has been killing our brothers and sisters here and there and yet we do not need to be afraid but to observe all protocols as we are told to do.

“Put on your face masks at all times as you teach in class; make sure students as well as pupils are also using theirs too.

“Wash your hands regularly with soap under running water; always ensure that students and pupils are doing the same; stay away from one another in a distance of two metres apart.

“Sanitisers should always be there to take care of water shortages: most importantly, if any child or teacher is feeling sick, rush him or her to the hospital.

“This is not the time to visit patent medicine stores because tests are needed before treatment can commence.

“My joy is that governments at all levels are fighting this pandemic with vigour, so there is no course for alarm.’’

Mr Dim called on parents, teachers, students and pupils to join forces so as to conquer this pandemic in order to stay alive.

The PG expressed satisfaction at the state of things at various schools visited but called for improvements, especially in the area of provision of infrared thermometers.

He adds: “teachers, students and pupils can afford face masks, water, soap and even sanitisers.

“When it comes to infrared thermometers, it is in the hands of the government to provide it for schools.

“The effort of the government, especially Anambra State Government in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic is commendable: we need to continue so as to completely win the fight. (MOI)
