Ojoto (Idemili South LGA), May 5, 2021 (MOI) A group, which calls itself `Ancestors Warriors of Biafra (AWOB)’ inserted palm fronds (Omu) at the Main Gate into the Idemili South Local Government Area (LGA), Ojoto in a bid to stop workers from entry into the premises.
In Igboland, the tying of palm frond signifies danger and in most cases to entry.
The staff members of Idemili South LGA were shocked at the sight of the palm frond on the gate on resumption of work after the public holiday that ended on May 3.
It was gathered that the group arrived at the secretariat at around 5am on May 2 while security men on night shift were far inside the Secretariat compound.
They later reported that the group eventually dispersed, without confrontation, demolition or theft.
A security man who spoke under anonymity said that their colleagues came out and met the main gate tied with palm fronds and a flag, saying that fliers bearing several threatening inscriptions were littered at the gate.
They include inscriptions like ‘Stay away from Local Government, Nigerian Police, Army, Navy, Civil Defence, Road Safety, Vigilance or Security.
The Idemili South Transition Chairman, Mr Don Unachukwu was quoted as telling the workers to go about their normal duties.
However, most of the staff members were seen hanging in clusters at the gate refusing to access their offices saying they were afraid some people might come to attack the secretariat.
The LGA’s Public relations Officer, Mrs Gloria Nwosu who confirmed the incident noted that there had been security challenges ravaging the entire country too. Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, who said that he was not aware of the incident promised to investigate the incident. (MOI)
