Nkpor, May 11, 2021 (MOI) A suspected armed robbery has been burnt to death by an angry mob at a popular Nkpor Junction, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, on May 10.
It was gathered that some suspects reportedly stormed the junction in company of his gang members, where they robbed travelers and passersby of their valuable possessions.
An eye witness said one of the victims raised alarm and in the process attracted sympathisers, who immediately mobilised to give a chase to the robbers.
It explained that one of them was apprehended while the rest escaped.
The arrested robber was beaten into a pulp and ordered to disclose the whereabouts of his fleeing accomplices.
“Since he refused to give off information on where about of his colleagues, he was set ablaze by the mob so as to teach a lesson to others that have been terrorising Nkpor junction and environs a lesson.”
The State’s Command Police Public Relation Officer (PRO), DSP Tochukwu Ikenga said the remains of the deceased had been recovered, while investigation had since commenced.
He said that at about 11am, a mob allegedly set ablaze a suspected thief, at Nkpor Round About.
“The Police operatives attached to the Ogidi Division rushed to the scene, recovered the body and cordoned off the area to restore law and order.
“Preliminary investigation has revealed that the hoodlums (3 persons) attacked a man and dispossessed him of his belongings. During a hot chase by the angry mob around in the area, one of the suspects was apprehended and set ablaze.’’ (MOI) TON
