Onitsha, July 15, 2021 (MOI) Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA) has bankrolled the refurbishment of a Dental facility at the Onitsha General Hospital Complex.
The facility has now become an ultra-modern dental clinic.
Executive Secretary ASHIA, Dr Simeon Onyemaechi announced this to members of the media during an inspection tour of the refurbished premises.
He said that the gesture was initiated via a vision of Gov. Willie Obiano, who foresaw giving quality healthcare to Ndi Anambra.
“This has been achieved through a robust funding mechanism that will ensure that the routine cycle of funding through budgeting from the government will not be a bureaucratic bottleneck to the implementation of healthcare service delivery in Anambra State.
“We went ahead to run with Gov. Obiano’s vision, having taken up the mantle that he handed down to us to do this on his behalf; we embarked on getting into a social contract with the management of all our public facilities.
“We had to directly improve the service delivery in the facilities through utilisation of the capitation in fees for services paid to them.
“It became imperative to bring down the old Dental facility of Onitsha General Hospital, not completely, but enough to have a modern dental clinic that will serve as a regional referral centre.
“This, we funded using a percentage of the capitation and fees for service.
“By the next 3 to 4 weeks, when this complex will be ready for inauguration, you will see it fully equipped and ASHIA is committed to going ahead to fund whatever is left here so that the project which started last year will be completed,’’ he noted.
“The complex is built in such a way that it is accessible to everyone including the disabled because it is equipped with ramps to aid easy movement of the disabled.
Dr Onyemaechi said that he was excited about this project because it was one of the reasons that Gov. Obiano set up ASHIA.
“We are beginning to see one of the numerous projects in different general hospitals in Anambra without hitches that could have characterised funding of such projects on account of bureaucratic processes.’’
The Chief Medical Director of the, Dr Nnamdi Ekpelinma, said that the renovation which was fully powered by ASHIA would be one of the best in the South East.
Dr Ekpelima said that the hospital community was happy that the State Government was able to carry out this through ASHIA, which had proved that health insurance had reduced the burden on Ndi Anambra. “With the funds available through health insurance, we are able to improve our facilities and bring in state-of-the-art equipment along with good services delivery to our people.’’ (MOI)
