Umueri (Anambra East LGA), Dec. 22, 2020 (MOI) Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA) has provided Umueri General Hospital with solar energy to ensure 24-hour power supply at the facility.
The 5 KVA solar installations would provide steady electricity power supply to the theatre, maternity ward and the male ward.
This is in addition to the installation of automatic solar powered street lights to illuminate the entire hospital premises at night.
Executive Secretary ASHIA, Dr Simeon Onyemaechi, while speaking with newsmen gave credit to Gov. Willie Obiano in whose initiative ASHIA was brought in to lead development in the health sector.
“When Gov. Obiano set-up ASHIA it became a game changer in the health sector, because it is supposed to solve the problem of health care financing in the state.
“The development we see today is the efficient and effective management of ASHIA resources; the project was executed using the accrued interest from ASHIA capitation and fees for service due to the hospital.’’
Traditional Ruler of Umueri, Igwe Benneth Izuchukwu Emeka commended the Government for the good work it was doing concerning healthcare provisions through ASHIA.
“The Solar lights installed today are a pointer that the government does not want to joke with healthcare sector neither does it joke, with the security of the people working in the hospital.’’
He noted that since the hospital was built, Government had not neglected the people, while pleading with the government to look into landscaping the hospital premises that were promised sometime ago. Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Dozie Udolisa said that the hospital had been having power supply issues but with the installation of the solar lights, the hospital now has 24 hour-power supply daily.
