Awka, June 24, 2021 (MOI) A former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof Chukwuma Soludo emerged as the flag bearer for the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), ahead of the Nov. 6, Anambra State Governorship polls.
Soludo was declared the winner and nominated after the party’s primary at the Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka.
The primary witnessed heavy presence of security personnel.
The event had a total of 812 delegates along with the party leadership and other personalities connected to the election.
The officials of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), led by Musa Husumu attended the primary as required by the electoral law.
Declaring the winner, the Chief Returning Officer, Mr Samson Olalere, a Deacon, announced that Soludo polled a total of 740 votes to defeat other aspirants.
The defeated candidates are Okwudili Ezenwankwo who scored 41 votes; Okolo Damian, 7 and Kingsley Ibe with 4 votes.
Mr Olalere also said that a total of 792 votes were cast during the process. There were 812 delegates but those accredited were 795. In his acceptance speech, Soludo said he would consolidate on the achievements of Gov. Willie Obiano in projecting Anambra State to the limelight and thanked APGA faithful for the confidence they reposed in him. (MOI)
