Umueri (Anambra East LGA), May 11, 2021 (MOI) The Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dr Boboye Oyeyemi says his Anambra State command will continue its partnership with the state Government to further improve traffic management in the state.
Dr Oyeyemi said the partnership was essential, especially now that the state now has an international airport.
He disclosed this when he accompanied Gov. Willie Obiano to the Anambra International Airport with a delegation from the Knighthood of Anglican Communion.
The FRSC boss observed that the international airport would increase flow of traffic, especially around Onitsha and environs.
According to him, Onitsha remains the commercial centre of Nigeria and requires adequate traffic management.
“The road network in Onitsha cannot contain the flow of traffic and there is no room for expansion. The only thing required is traffic discipline.
“This airport is a fulfilment of our vision and mission statements. It is difficult to create a new economic corridor without a functional international airport that will serve as a direct bridge between us and the world.
“With this facility, we have made the journey easier for any investor who wants to prospect Anambra State for business!
“This airport is, therefore, a timely bridge between Anambra and the world. It is the link between a dream and its fulfilment.
“I have no doubt that in the shortest possible time, the Anambra International Passenger and Cargo Airport shall become one of the busiest airports in Nigeria. The key success factors are there for all to see.
“Indeed, the economic values from this airport cannot be quantified. The construction of this airport has kept 3,000 people in direct employment and another 3,500 in indirect employment for 15 months’’.
The Commissioner for Works, Mr Marcel Ifejiofor, an engineer, said that the equipment for the terminal building and the control tower had all been paid for by the State Government.
Earlier, a former Chairman of Police Service Commission, Chief Simon Okeke said that Gov. Obiano deserved an award for achieving such a feat in such a short period.
The Knights commended the project and prayed to God for the governor, his family and administration.
Also at the airport were the wife of the governor, Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, Sen. Joy Emodi and members of the State House of Assembly. (MOI) 3C/TON
