Awka, April 19, 2021 (MOI) Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr Vincent Okpala has hailed the State Government’s continued partnership with the European Union and World Health Organisation (EU/WHO) in healthcare matters.

Dr Okpala made this commendation at the conclusion of a 5-day 2021 M&E and Annual Operational Plan (AOP) workshop in Awka.

He noted that the partnership with the EU/WHO had improved significantly the performance of health workers as regards service delivery in healthcare facilities in the state.

The 5-day workshop was tagged: `Anambra State 2021 Sector Annual Operational Plan Development Workshop’.

“With the objective of strengthening the Anambra State Health System for Primary Healthcare Delivery.

“This training will help improve the contributions of Programme managers, Coordinators, Monitoring and Evaluation Officers for optimal services to Ndi Anambra accessing care.

“The activity started about two years earlier, we want to look at what we want to achieve from January to December and give a scheduled timeline.

“All the Heads of Departments, Programmes and Units in the ministry have come together brainstorming on what they want to achieve which will as well help the ministry to remain focused.

“The activities will be such that will impact positively on the welfare and health of Ndi Anambra in general,’’ he said.

Dr Okpala explained that Programme managers, Coordinators, Unit heads came together to learn strongly about certain aspects of Monitoring and Evaluation.

“Also they use Strength, Weakness, Opportunity and Threat (SWOT) analysis to evaluate themselves as well as to know the areas of improvement.’’

The commissioner applauded Gov. Willie Obiano for creating a conducive and enabling environment that made it possible for the continued partnership and also commended other partners.

He thanked the facilitators, participants for their interest and dedication during the exercise.

In attendance were Dr Chukwumuanya Igboekwu, State Coordinator WHO; Mr Ndubuisi Oji, EU Project Coordinator for Health System Strengthening; Mr Linus Nwankwo, Permanent Secretary and Mrs Edith Nwachukwu Head Planning, Research and Statistics. (MOI)
