Awkuzu (Oyi LGA), March 14, 2021 (MOI) Rev. Sr. Uzonna Orakwue, Principal, Mater Dei Secondary School, Awkuzu has re-assured parents of quality education of their wards psychologically, morally and intellectually.

Sr. Orakwue said this during the Parents Teachers Dialogue (PTD) meeting held on March 13 at the school hall.

She said that the management was poised to inculcate in the students the spirit of hard work to gain pride of place in education, “emphasising that education is the bedrock of success’’.

The principal noted that the economy was bad globally, urging parents to invest diligently in their children’s education as it would yield more dividends for them.

According to her, Mater Dei Awkuzu is a citadel of learning known for excellence, noting that the school has received many awards of excellence.

Sr. Orakwue said that the school on Nov. 27, 2020 received an award of excellence in leadership and productivity from National Productivity Centre in collaboration with Leadership and Professional Ethics Consult, Abuja.

This she said was a testimony to the premium which the school placed on holistic education.

She explained that if a student failed English or Mathematics at the end of each academic year, she would have to repeat that class but where she failed twice, she would be expelled.

The principal expressed worry that some parents did not take their children’s education seriously the way they take their feedings, which was evident in what they package for them on visiting days.

“Over pampering of children impedes their future and mars their progress. Overfeeding constitutes health problem for them.’’

Sr. Orakwue announced that their students performed excellently in the just-concluded West African Examination Council (WAEC) and the National Examination Council (NECO) examinations.

She said that the date for their send-off and Face of Mater Dei competition would be communicated to parents later.

Parents expressed happiness at the giant strides being recorded by the school, even as they pledged solidarity for the progress of the school. (MOI)
