Awka, Feb. 18, 2021 (MOI) Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Mr Uche Okafor has expressed appreciation to Gov. Willie Obiano for proactive measures taken to ensure that lawmakers and the staff members are safe and healthy.
Mr Okafor also thanked the state Commissioner for Health, Clerk of the House and Assembly staff members for working hard to ensure that the House’s plenary sessions were conducted under a conducive environment.
The Speaker made the commendation at the resumption of House plenary on Feb. 16, after 3-week shut down because of the spread of the 2nd wave of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.
It was also to enable the Commissioner for Health to carry out disinfection of House offices and the environs before they could commence normal business.
According to the Speaker, we have just resumed after three weeks’ recess because of COVID-19.
“I thank the staff members of the Assembly headed by the Clerk and the commissioner for health, and the government for proactive measures taken to ensure that all were safe and healthy.
In an interview with Information Officers earlier, Mr Joe Udechukwu, the leader of SOVENTURES Ltd., the company that fumigated the Assembly’s premises, said they came to disinfect the entire premises including the offices.
He explained that the chemical they used was safe for humans and could last up to 90 days. Once it is sprayed, people can access after five minutes. “It is not harmful to human beings”.
Meanwhile, all staff members of the Assembly resumed work on Feb. 15 after the 3-week break. (MOI)
