Awka, Feb. 15, 2021 (MOI) Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr Vincent Okpala has assured the Environmental Health Officers Registration Council of Nigeria (EHORCN) that his ministry would maintain its partnership with them in order to promote healthy living.
Dr Okpala gave the assurance during an advocacy visit with the new Zonal State Coordinator of the group in his office at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat Complex, Awka.
The commissioner noted that Environmental Health Officers play a significant role and as well focus on the relationships between people and their environment, promoting human health and well-being.
According to him, environmental health is a key part of any comprehensive public health system and you have seen the need for us to maintain the partnership.
“All of us will continue to advocate for a clean and healthy environment because a good and conducive environment begets good health.
“I am glad that you people as a group are alive to the work that needs to be done and you are doing something about it which is very important.
“The food that people eat in different states, the processes are poorly prepared and it has the capacity to give diseases,’’ he said.
The Zonal Coordinator, Mr Kelvin Okafor said that the purpose of their visit was to solicit for the ministry’s continued support in providing better platforms for environmental officers.
Mr Okafor emphasised the working synergy between environmental health officers and the health ministry in handling environmental health matters in the state.
“The position of your office as it pertains to health matters in the state cannot be overemphasised; under your watch our members have been practicing in various aspects in terms of waste, management and paste control.’’
We want to re-establish the long existing relationship between your office and our people serving under you.
He noted that the establishment of a working platform especially in hospitals, would aid proper functioning of the officers. (MOI)
