Onitsha, Feb. 25, 2021 (MOI) Pedestrians have been admonished to be mindful of the dangers associated with hawking on highways.
Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps Anambra State, Mr CC Andrew Kumapayi said this while condoling with families of four female hawkers reportedly crushed to death by a blue Mercedes Benz truck at Upper Iweka flyover, Onitsha.
Sector Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps Anambra State Command; SRC Florence Edor said the event occurred at 0730hrs on Feb. 24.
“The truck driver, whose name was not disclosed, had a disagreement with revenue collectors at Upper Iweka flyover and when his truck rolled back, crushing the four female hawkers on the road.
The FRSC rescue team, the Nigerian Army and the Police recovered the bodies of the victims, which were deposited at the Toronto Hospital Morgue after a doctor confirmed them dead.
Edor added that the truck driver and his motor boy, who did not sustain injuries, had been handed over to the police for further investigations.
The Benz Truck has registration number XF 259 UNZ was driven by an unidentified driver.(MOI)
