Umunya (Oyi LGA), Feb. 5, 2021 (MOI) No fewer than 20 persons were involved in a road crash that occurred at Tempo Junction, Umunya, Oyi Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra State on Feb. 4.
The multiple serious crash involved an unidentified driver of a Mark Articulated Truck with registration number, AGB 27 YV and unidentified driver of Toyota Hi-ace bus with registration number FST 39 XT.
This is contained in a press release by the Sector Public Education Officer, of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Command, Ms Florence Edor.
They also said that the crash was as a result of wrongful overtaking which led to a head on collision by the two vehicles.
The statement also noted that no deaths were recorded but involved 20, comprising seven male adults, four female adults, four male children and five female children.
Of the number, 16 persons sustained varying degrees of injuries, some of whom were taken to Beatrice Hospital and Divine Care Hospital both in Umunya by FRSC Rescue Team at Nteje Unit Command for treatment.
The statement quotes the Sector Commander Anambra State FRSC, Mr CC Andrew A Kumapayi as cautioning motorists to be careful and avoid wrongful overtaking.
“If in doubt, do not overtake. Ensure you overtake when and where it is safe to do so to avoid preventable crashes. I wish the injured accelerated recovery.’’ (MOI)
