Amawbia (Awka South LGA), Dec. 12, 2020 (MOI) A former Adviser of Telecommunications to two former Governor of old Anambra State, Mr John Onwuka, 63 has been interred at his hometown, Amawbia on Dec. 11.
He served Governors Okwesilieze Nwodo and Retired Col. Robert Akonobi at Enugu Government House.
Late Onwuka, community Leader, Motivator and Disciplinarian, an Engineer, was father of Mr Okechukwu Onwuka, a Programme Analyst with the Ministry of Information and Public Enlightenment, Awka.
The deceased, who died on Oct. 23 during a brief ill-health, was born on December. 4,1957.
During his lifetime, he worked with Nigeria Telecommunication (NITEL) Exchange Stations at different locations in Enugu, Ebonyi and various parts of Anambra State.
Mr Onwuka was appointed Chairman NATCOM Plc., in recognition of his selfless service to the profession and the nation at large.
The deceased wife, Mrs Virgy Onwuka described him as her best friend, mentor, helper, prayer partner, dependable ally, lovely husband who cared for the family, humanity and the Church.
“My husband was a man of rare courage, a disciplinarian, who always preached the difficult message; `do as I do’.’’
His son Okechukwu Onwuka said that his father’s death caused him emotional wreck but was consoled because he lived a Christian life of humanitarian service.
“My dad was endowed with leadership qualities that deployed the skill in facilitating the development of his town.
“The communal services he rendered to the town, others endeared him to many people because of his transparency.
“He was a great influencer and motivator, who always inspired people to work hard to achieve their set goals.’’
The deceased brother, Ven. Christian Onwuka said that his brother was a pacesetter, who set a good pace for his siblings to follow.
Ven. Onwuka noted that his late brother was a child of Grace, who left his imprint on the sands of time.
Earlier in a sermon at St. Augustine’s Anglican Church, Amawbia, retired Rt. Rev. Cyril Chukwuka said that God gave man eternal life in Christ Jesus and once he received Christ, he would have eternal life.
He said: “if we believe in God, we will not be separated from Him’’, emphasising “when we cut off from God, we are doomed’’.
Ven. Chukwuka said the deceased was a man of courage and determination, who lived a fulfilled family and Christian life, praying God to grant repose to his soul.
Mr Tony Nweke (JP), Director, Ministry of Information and Public Enlightenment, Awka, in a eulogy said that he was encouraged by the testimonies on the life and times of the deceased.
According to him, the deceased’s son, who works with the Ministry is a true replica of his departed father. Mr Nweke urged the family to take solace in the quality and an exemplary life their father lived. (MOI)
