Awka, Dec. 1, 2020 (MOI) Anambra State Ministry of Transport in collaboration with Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria (TOAN) have commenced training of tricycle riders at Cana House Awka.

The trainings were being held at three zonal centres — Awka, Onitsha and Ekwulobia.

Inaugurating the training on Nov. 24, Transport Commissioner, Mr Afam Mbanefo said that the riders would be trained on how to ride and stay alive, understand traffic signs, road markings as well as driving rules and regulations.

Mbanefo cautioned them on reckless driving; reminding them that life had no duplicate for both the riders and the road users.

He urged them to avail themselves of the training opportunity to be able to improve and make good living from their business, especially this ember season.

The commissioner informed them that the ministry had already created Traffic Command and Control Centre (TCCC), a platform that would enable them to communicate and lodge their complaints only in text messages and Whatsapp for pictures.

Anambra Sector Commander Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr C C Andrew Kumapayi, said that his personnel were already on the training ground to impart adequate knowledge required to ensure safety on the roads and for the state to have less accidents this ember season.

The Ministry Legal Adviser, Mr Chukwuma Amazu educated them on Anambra State traffic laws, the penalties for driving without riders licence as well as traffic violation rules.

The Resource Person, a Vehicle Inspection Officer (VIO) Mr Chukwueloka Obidoa harped on the need for tricycle riders to avoid unnecessary overtaking and over loading, emphasising the importance of traffic lights and use of horns, where necessary.

He enjoined them to ensure that their tricycles were road worthy and desist from using improper head lights.

The State Chairman Tricycle Association, Mr Sylvester Obiora promised the commissioner of greater improvements among the riders after the training.

He also thanked the state government for organising the maiden training on driving skills and rules.  Issuance of certificates to the participants by the commissioner formed part of the training. (MOI)
