Onitsha, May 23, 2018 (MOI) The Transition Committee Chairman, Onitsha South Local Government Area (LGA) Mr Emeka Asoanya was conferred with Order of Distinguished Local Government Chairmen (DLGC) Merit Award.

According to him, he has dedicated the award to Gov. Willie Obiano.

The award was conferred on him and other distinguished persons by Rootwatch National Magazine (RWNM) at Award Merit House Maitama, Abuja.

An official of the RWNM Award committee said that the award was in recognition for quality leadership through service delivery and accountability.

Asoanya, while receiving the award commended Gov. Obiano for believing in him and for providing him the opportunity to serve the people.

He expressed gratitude to Roothwatch Magazine for finding him worthy of the award and poured encomium on Gov. Obiano for his achievements in Anambra State, especially in area of security.

He, however, said that the award was a call for more hard work.

``It has challenged me to be more dedicated to serving the council area.’’

The Head of LG Administration, Mrs Akanna Cordelia, who said that she witnessed the conferment of the award, said that out of the 21 LGA’s in the state, Onitsha South LGA was singled out for the award.

She listed some of the achievements of the chairman to include the creation of good working environment, renovations in the council buildings and provision of infrastructure for the offices.

Mrs Akanna also noted some of the chairman’s projects `in the pipeline’ include lighting up some streets of Onitsha South, evacuating refuse bins, fumigating the LGA and visits to Motherless babies’ homes. (MOI)
