The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) assisted Rural Finance Institution Building Programme (RUFIN) has organized a two day training programme for formation of Village Savings Credit Groups in rural communities in Anambra State.

Speaking at the forum organized at the headquarters of the state Ministry of Agriculture, Mechanization, Processing and Export, the State Project Coordinator, Rufin, Mrs Uzoamaka Emeagwali stated that the programme was organized to equip the participants with the skills to mobilize and sensitize rural farmers especially women on accessing agricultural credits from micro finance banks and non-governmental organizations.

Mrs Emeagwali further stated that the programme was designed to reduce poverty in rural communities especially in localities where credit facilities are not easily accessible; pointing out that the volunteer groups would train the rural women on techniques of saving funds for agricultural purposes.

Also speaking at the occasion, Lydia Ameh, a representative of Central Programme Management Unit (CPMU) Rufin, Abuja and a facilitator at the workshop urged participants to diligently disseminate the information and skills they received to the unreached poor rural women, pointing out that they are the vehicles for effecting a change and achieving the state’s goal to eradicate poverty in rural communities.

A  participant at the training, Mrs. Okafor Blessing, Chairperson, Ifunaya Women from Anyamelum Local Government Area, urged other participants to successfully step down the training at their various villages as it has great potentials for women,citing herself as a beneficiary of the scheme and has successfully introduced other women to the scheme in Anyamelum local government area.

At the training, participants were taken through various topics such as definition of volunteers, roles and responsibilities of a volunteer, good mobilization and sensitization techniques, good record keeping skills amongst other topics.

Some of the micro finance banks and NGOs in attendance were Care for the physically Challenged and Bank of Agriculture Rural Business Initiative, (BOARBI).

Participants were drawn from Awka North, Anyamelum, Orumba North, Anambra East and Idemili South local government areas.

The 16 communities of Orumba North Council Area of the state have endorsed Governor Willie Obiano for a second term in office.

The endorsement came during a Mega Rally and grand reception organized for the Governor in Nanka.

It was a gathering of renowned political heads and grassroots mobilizers in Orumba North, as nkwo agu school field, Nanka, venue of the event was filled to capacity with Ndi Orumba North who turned out enmasse to receive the Governor.

The 18 wards that constitute the Council area were fully represented in their numbers and showed their solidarity with the governor with chants of support and fireworks as he moved round the stands to acknowledge their cheers.

The people first passed a vote of confidence on the Governor before they pledged their endorsement for the Governor’s second term bid.

Addressing the mammoth crowd, Governor Obiano expressed appreciation to people of Orumba North for the endorsement, adding that it was a pointer to the people’s general acceptance of the leadership model of his government.

The governor while assuring them of his administration’s resolve to continue to provide the people dividends of democracy, revealed that the state government is spending over 450 million naira in connecting the State through Ufuma to the Power Station at Oji River, adding that with the financial commitment it has made already, government is hopeful that the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, will energize the newly installed cables soon.

He harped on the need for the people to support his administration especially in its efforts to keep the state afloat in the face of the present economic recession, assuring them that his government is doing the right things to cushion the burden of the recession on Ndi Anambra.

The Chairman of the Occasion, Chief Raymond Obieri while welcoming the governor to the council area, said it is the unanimous decision of the people to lean their weight behind him because of his outstanding performance so far in governing the state.

The Convener of the event,  Chief Okwudili Ezenwankwo in his remarks, said the ceremony has become apt to repay the governor for his benevolence towards people of Orumba North.

In an address on behalf of the Council, the Chairman of the Central Planning Committee for the event, Mr Alphonsus Muogbo pointed out that the main reason for the reception was to identify with the governor’s laudable achievements in governance and to wholeheartedly express their support for him come 2017.

In their separate remarks, a stakeholder from Nanka,  Chief Ikechukwu Ezenwankwo and the APGA Chairman, Oko Ward One,  Chief Patrick Mejulu who described APGA as the only political party Ndigbo has,  said continuity is critical in 2017 to ensure that the laudable programmes of the present administration are completed and sustained.

Official endorsement of the governor,reception of decampees into APGA as well as cultural performance by a masquerade troupe formed the highpoints of the event.

The Ufuma Integrated Rice Project in Orumba North Council of Anambra state will soon be commissioned for increased rice production in the state.

The state governor, Chief Willie Obiano disclosed this while commissioning the Orumba North Rural Electrification project at the premises of the Holy Trinity Church, Ufuma this afternoon.

He acknowledged that the Rice project when commissioned would be the second largest in the country, and would have facilities for both rice production, processing and other value chain as well as have an outgrower scheme through which other rice farmers in the locality would be provided improved seedlings for better and enhanced yield.

According to the governor, when the project fully comes on stream with the outgrowers initiative, the state’s rice production capacity would increase to 400,000 metric tons, surpassing its consumption capacity of 300,000 metric tons.

Gov Obiano expressed hope that the electrification project which runs on a dedicated feeder designed to serve only the Orumba area, would help boost socio-economic activities and give impetus to his administration’s security efforts in the area.

Earlier in his address, the Executive Director of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, Dr Steve Dike said it was important that the people understood clearly their role in ensuring that the project achieves its purpose which he noted include prompt payment of their electricity bills and protecting power cables and other facilities.

The Commissioner for Power and Domestic Water Development, Mr Obi Nwankwo in his remarks stated that the State government will soon commence the rehabilitation of all water projects across the state, and hailed the vision of Gov Obiano in bringing about visible transformation in the rural communities through numerous development projects.

The Member representing Orumba North Constituency in the State Assembly, Mr Romanus Obi expressed delight that despite the harsh economic weather, the governor has harkened to the call of Ndi Orumba for electricity, describing him as a passionate leader.

The newly introduced   Community choose your project initiative by the Anambra state Government  is receiving commendations by the good people of Anambra state. It’s also seen as the  only way through which all the communities in Anambra state can feel the impact of Governance in the state.

A visit to the twenty million naira community projects in the 16 communities of Orumba north, revealed that about five communities have already  completed their various projects, waiting for the second batch to commence as promised by Governor Willie Obiano. Those communities were Ndiokpaleke, Ndiokolo, Awa, Amokpala and Okpeze . While other remaining nine communities were at the completion stage .

The newly appointed transition Chairman of Orumba North, Hon Emeka Aforka, has appointed principal officers and chairmen and members of 7 committees.

In the appointment, Hon Barnard Onyekwelu, representing Nanka Ward 2 , was named the deputy Chairman of the council and also the Supervisor for health, Obinna Okechukwu representing Oko ward 1, was appointed the Supervisor for finance, Hon Peter Nwafor representing Amokpala is in charge of works, while Hon Ezekiel Nwankwo from Ajalli ward 1 is for education and  Hon Augustine Emeka Maxwell ,from Ufuma ward 1, supervisor for Agriculture.

Similarly, in a meeting between the Chairman, management and members of newly appointed Supervisors, the chairman inaugurated  the supervisors and he charged them to be diligent in their work and to also see their job as service to God and to humanity. The transition Chairman dissolved all the existing committees in the local government council and reconstituted new seven committees for effective administration, The committees and their Chairman are Committee on tender board headed by Hon Robinson Anyechie, Health Committee headed by Hon Onwubuiko Uzochukwu ,Education headed by Hon peter Obi, market headed by Gashion Asiegbu and works and Street naming Hon Emezie Nwangene

Obiano’s second tenure is receiving  wilder acceptance as the stakeholders in Orumba North Local Government Area, gathered in their numbers at the Local Government Secretariat Ajalli to endorse Chief Willie Obiano for a second term in office as Gov. of Anambra State come November 18th, 2017 election.

Orumba north stakeholders forum for Obiano for 2nd term was inaugurated yesterday by the national president Chief Ekene Enefe,and Hon Chief Romanus Obi formally introduced as  the coordinator in Orumba north.The forum has been going round the 21 local government of Anambra state meeting with major stakeholders and leaders of thought in every community,telling Them why Obiano should be allowed to complete his second term as Governor of Anambra State. They also in their visit interact with the Stakeholders, solicit for their support and identify the problem of every community.

Present in the meeting were the Traditional Rulers,the president Generals,Community Women leaders,Youth Leaders and selected stakeholders from Orumba north, Chief  Enefe ,when addressing over One thousand people  who came for the meeting said the meeting will not take much time, stressing that he was  going round  with his team to the communities or Local Government  to know the Government presence in every communities and also know what the Communities needed most. He promised that all those problems identified would be articulated and send to Governor for proper  action to be taking immediately.

All the communities present, were asked to select One person each that will speak and present  what the Government is doing in his or her community .

Pastor Charles Orji who was selected to speak for Ndiokpaleke said that Obiano’s administration   is trying very well, adding that Willie Obiano built primary health Centre in Ndiokpaleke .He draw the attention of Anambra state Government to the bad condition of Ndiokpaleke, Ndiokolo Road,Orji said that the 6.5 kilometre  road is a source of worry and what the town needed most stressing that Gov. Obiano promised he will construct the road when  he flagged off Ndiokpaleke primary health centre.

Vice  president General Ufuma Development union ,  Hon Okezie Umeaba comended Obiano for the #20,000,000 million Naira Community project  which Ufuma has completed their own, he however noted that the major source of worry to Ufuma people is the bad condition of the road that linked Ufuma to Awa, Ndiukwuenu and Amansea. He said that the road have been awarded to south African Company,but now erosion is washing away some houses and government should act fast before it will cost more damages.

Chief Enefe later assured the communities that their problems will be articulated in writing he urged all the Communities to send their report through Hon Romanus Obi, Orumba North Coordinator and House of Assembly member representing the Constituency, on or before Tuesday and some selected Stakeholders from Orumba north will meet with Governor Willie Obiano.

Finally Orumba north accepted to adopt Governor Obiano as the Candidate they will vote for through his political Party APGA. A motion was moved by Hon Okezie Umeaba,vice President General Ufuma,and supported by Dr G U Nwaeke from Okpeze and their was no descenting voice.

The Institute of security, Abuja were on inspection tour in orumba North Local Government. The leader of the group Mr. M. B. Seiyeifa told the chairman that their team is made up of different groups of which some have gone to other places, he said that they were in the Local Government to Synergize with security Agencies in finding out their problems.

The Chairman of Local Government Hon. Emeka Aforka promised to help them achieve the purpose of their visit. He said he would take them round the major processing sites and establishment within the Local Government. He thanked them for making the Local Government one of the places they will visit and they will not regret their coming. The group were taken to Josan Rice Mill Enugwugbo Ufuma where they were welcomed by the farm manager Mr. Abu Ode, who explained to them the various processes and mechanism in production of rice, the farm as a result of their practice of irrigation has made them to be planting rice three times a year.

Six trainee students of the Federal Polytechnic Oko have emerged best graduands at the just concluded Fidelity Bank Youth Empowerment Academy (YEA 3) held in Oko.

Gazelle Academy trained the 200 students in accessories, fashion designing, shoe making, Ankara craft, cocktail and make over while Fidelity Bank sponsored the training.

The bank donated skills acquisition tools and machines worth hundreds of thousands of naira to the Federal Polytechnic Oko, Orumba North council area of the state to boost skills acquisition in the school .

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the event, the founder of Gazelle Academy Lagos, Mrs Muna Onuzo expressed joy over the zeal exhibited by the students during the 5-day training period.

She enjoined students to make good use of the empowerment grants given to them to make their school, state and country proud by becoming employers of labour.

The Managing Director of Fidelity Bank, Mr Nnamdi Okonkwo said the bank had disbursed over two-point-two billion naira (#2.2b) to small and medium scale enterprises, adding that the bank would continue to monitor the progress of students trained under the Fidelity Youth Empowerment Academy programme.

Represented by the Regional Head of the bank, Mr Leonard Ezeugwu, Mr Okonkwo explained that the bank would continue to assist the students in achieving their desired goals and charged the institution to start exporting products, while urging Nigerians to patronise made-in-Nigeria products.

The Rector Federal Polytecnic Oko represented by the Deputy Rector (Academics), Mrs Gladys Anene commended Fidelity Bank and Gazelle Academy for finding the school worthy of such programme and promised its sustainability.

The Anambra state Commissioner for Youth Entrepreneurship and Sports Development commened the bank for investing in the youths, assuring that the present administration would continue to support youth development programmes at all times.

Two outstanding students of the YEA 3 programme Nwubani Chinyere and Igwebuike Echezona promised to make Fidelity bank, Gazelle Academy, their families and country proud.

The Fidelity Youth Empowerment Academy programme which would be replicated in other states of the federation, had already been done in Enugu and Kebbi states.



Oko indigenes and residents have been enjoined to avail themselves of the opportunity to get registered in the continuous voters registration exercise as Oko community has been scheduled for registration on Wednesday 14th and Thursday 15th June, 2017.
The information as released by the office of the chairman, Orumba North L.G.A, and announced at St. Peter’s Catholic church  Oko on Sunday 11th June, 2017 reveals that those who should register include those who did not register in the last voters registration exercise, those who were not upto 18 years of age during the last voters registration exercise, those who misplaced their permanent voters card (PVC), those who relocated newly to the state and those whose last registrations were not successful.
The registration will take place at the Independent National Electoral Commission’s office at the Orumba North L.G.A headquarters, Ajalli.




The Executive Governor of Anambra State, Chief Dr. Willie Obiano has commissioned the first ever functional borehole project in Nanka.

The commissioning took place at Agbiligba Nanka in Orumba North Local Government Area.

Governor Obiano expressed happiness that clean portable water was struck at a depth of 2000 feet, describing the borehole as an important project carried out to assuage the thirst for clean portable water in the community.

He stated that the project is in line with the policy to make water available across the State, assuring the community that reticulation would be done with quality pipes to avoid lead poisoning.

He also assured the communities in the State with similar challenges that his administration would not abandon any project commenced by his predecessor.

The Hon. Commissioner for Utilities, Mr. Obi Nwankwo said that the success achieved in the borehole project was as a result of genuine collaboration and partnership between the Government and some illustrious sons of the community, promising the community that a 8000 litres overhead tank and generator house that would ensure that water is available to reach many homes while the power transformer serving the area has been replaced. He also appealed to the people to safeguard government facilities.

Earlier, The Executive Chairman of Orumba North L.G.A., Hon. Okey Enekwe appreciated the Governor for assisting the community with the project which is the first successful borehole in the area, promising that they would protect the investment and assured the Government of the support of indigenes.
