The Nnewi Amalgamated Traders Association, NATA , has honoured the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano with an award as “the Most Investor Friendly Governor in Nigeria”.

The award according to the traders was in recognition of the Governor’s dynamic governance and developmental blueprints, especially in the simultaneous development of every community in the state.

The award which was presented in a grand reception organized by NATA, was also heralded by massive endorsement of the Governor for the next governorship election.

Receiving the award, the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano disclosed that he had directed the 61 markets in the state to choose a project which would not cost more than N10 million for the state government to embark on in its bid to extend development to markets.

The Governor revealed that the state government would commence construction of the projects in each market as soon as the State House of Assembly passes the 2017 budget.

Chief Obiano noted that his administration would soon embark on the construction of all the dilapidated roads in Nnewi, irrespective of economic crunch and the meagre resources which the state government is receiving from the federation account.

He also stressed that his government would not relent in paying workers salaries, leave allowances and other benefits accruing to them .

In his address, the Chairman of Nnewi Amalgamated Traders Association, Chief Edward Muozom stated that the governor had achieved spectacular feats in attracting foreign direct investments to the tune of $ 3.6 billion to our state, thereby placing Anambra in a vantage position as the first choice investment destination in West Africa.

Chief Muozom expressed happiness that the state government has attracted over $150 million investments in rice production as exemplified with the Coshed Farm Anaku which had not only provided jobs, but also closed the wide gap between rice production and its demand in the state.

“Despite the economic recession which had almost crippled governance in most states, you have through your administrative savvy and as an outstanding patriot ensured that our dear Anambra State has not suffered such calamity or fate.” he said.

Chief Mouzom in addition commended the governor for the three flyovers at Awka ,which had become an iconic landmark in Nigeria and a potent insignia for an emerging cosmopolitan city, as well as the road construction that had linked major cities in the state.

Enumerating their challenges, the chairman listed the strategic Modibe, Timber market access road, linking three major markets such as Timber, Building materials and Agboedo United Markets as a major hindrance to traders in Nnewi due to its poor state.

He also pleaded for provision of security vehicles to enable them provide surveillance to the nine markets in Nnewi.

In his remarks, the Coordinator of the occasion, Mr Martin Ndujekwu commended the governor for his efforts in ameliorating the sufferings of indigent traders in the state, by attracting the attention of federal government to carve out avenues to support manufacturers , so as to improve production and create more employment opportunities.

The highlights of the event were presentation of award to Governor Obiano as the Most Investor Friendly Governor in Nigeria, as well as display of various cultural dances.

Present at the occasion were government officials, captains of industries and many sons and daughters of Nnewi.

Chief Francis Chukwuma, a community leader from Otolo Nnewi has expressed the willingness of Nnewi people to massively vote Governor Obiano for a second tenure. This unanimous decision was as a result of the reconstruction of the dilapidated Nwafor Orizu road that leads to the Igwe Nnewi’s palace by his present administration.

Chief Chukwuma who noted that the road has been abandoned by the previous administrations in the State thanked Chief Willie Obiano for coming to their rescue.

Chukwuma said it did not take much effort for Governor Obiano to approve his request in writing on behalf of his people to do the road.

He noted that what the Governor did was to show that he always feel for the people he governed. He also said that street lights enjoyed by Otolo Nnewi people was also a show of concern by the Governor and promised that Nnewi people would vote for Obiano again for him to do more for them.

“Apart from what Governor Obiano has particularly done for us, his agricultural policy has no comparison to the extent that Anambra is now a food exporting State in Nigeria and many youths are now gainfully employed in the agricultural and other sectors. Investors are coming in droves because of the sure security network the Governor has put in place. How many times have you heard about people being kidnapped or banks robbed again in Anambra? It is an old story” Chukwuma asserted.
