WORLD BANK ADVOCATES STRATEGIC COMMUNICATION AS TOOL FOR ENGAGING COMMUNITIES ON PROJECTS

Abuja, May 17, 2018 (MOI) World Bank Country Director, Mr Rachid Benmessaoud has urged Communication Officers to adopt strategic communication in carrying out their social responsibilities to the society.
Mr Rachid made the call during a one day Communication Workshop aimed at strengthening the capacity of communication officers in all World Bank-Assisted Projects in various states.
The event had a theme: ``Mainstreaming Communication For World Bank-Assisted Projects,” took place at Chelsea Hotels, Abuja.
``Communication is the heartbeat of every project. The goal of communication is to help to achieve its development objective; Strategic Communication should involve specific people,” Rachid said.
The director enjoined state Governments to take ownership of donor funded projects.
The World Bank’s Senior Communication Officer, Olufunke Olufun appealed to the officers to focus on reporting to impact on projects as well as on the beneficiaries.
At the end of the meeting, the communiqué issued, directed the communication officers to produce quarterly clips, press releases and human interest stories for engaging communities.
It also stressed the
need for quarterly meetings of communication officers at state levels to ensure
sustainability and platform for all communication officers to interact. (MOI)
