Awka, July 17, 2019 (MOI) Chairman, Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Nn’emeka Achebe says traditional rulers have braced to partner government to eradicate sundry crimes like vandalism in the state.


Achebe gave the assurance while receiving Commissioner for Public Utilities, Mr Emeka Ezenwanne and his team during the Traditional Rulers’ Council meeting at Government House, Awka.


Achebe, who spoke on behalf of the traditional rulers, thanked Mr Ezenwanne and his team for their visit and assured them of their readiness to check the menace of vandalism.


He urged Ezenwanne to inform traditional rulers when they want to install facilities in their towns so as to be ready to offer support.


Igwe Achebe assured them of their collaboration in arresting hoodlums, who vandalise government installations and those, who patronise such vandals.


He pledged that traditional rulers would educate their subjects on government’s resolve to protect its property anywhere in the state as well as to help in apprehending the vandals.  


Ezenwanne expressed worry over high rate of vandalism of government property by vandals and cautioned that they should relocate or risk arrest and prosecution.


He assured the traditional rulers of government support in safeguarding government facilities like street lights, transformers and water projects.


The commissioner condemned mismanagement of street lighting operation as some operators misuse diesel, used in powering the generators.


He appealed to the traditional rulers to hire credible experts to take over the management and operation of big water schemes.


 He, then, called for public and private sector participation in water scheme, street lighting management, protection of transformers and other facilities. (MOI)
