Awka, May 16, 2018 (MOI) Value Re-orientation by family has been advocated as the best way to boost students’ performance in schools.

The Deputy Director, International Collaboration and Linkages Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka Dr Williams Obiozor said this in Awka, during interactive session with media practitioners.

``The family is the first institution, where a child is raised and educated; as a result, parents play vital roles in the academic performance of the child,” Obiozor said.

He noted that since education was also imparted in the child by the parents, when they and caregivers don’t get involved in some of the programmes offered by schools, there are tendencies of weak academic performance by the child.

According to him, some students are weak in their educational performance because parents seek admission for them in spite of their poor performance in entrance examinations.

Obiozor urged parents to carry out their responsibilities irrespective of their careers.

``Parents have been so busy with their careers, forgetting that they have to supervise their children. Be role models and advocates of good governance,” he said.

A public Servant Mr Chiedu Okoye enjoined parents to teach their children some cultural norms as they play great roles in shaping the character and personalities of their wards. (MOI)
