ST JUDE’S LAITY COUNCIL CELEBRATES SILVER JUBILEE
Fegge (Onitsha South LGA), May 14, 2019 (MOI) Catholic Laity Council of Nigeria, St. Jude’s Parish on May 12 celebrated silver jubilee.
They used the opportunity to install some distinguished persons as patrons and patronesses.
The event, which took place at the Church Pavilion, Fegge Onitsha started with a holy mass; it witnessed merit awards.
Laity comprises the non ordained members of Catholic faithful.
The Mother of the day and Special Assistant to the Governor on Special Duties, Mrs Amaka Akudo in an interview expressed joy for the honour bestowed on her.
Mrs Akudo also urged religious faithful to live up to expectations and profess the faith while thanking priests for their support.
Chairman of the occasion and one of the installed patrons, Mr Sebastian Ikeotuonye said that he was honoured because of his continued support to the Church.
Ikeotuonye while expressing his happiness noted that he had received no fewer than 23 patron awards from different parishes within and outside Onitsha.
Earlier, the Event’s Committee Secretary, Mrs Ijeoma Okafor said that the Parish laity, as an umbrella body had achieved a lot in coordinating all communities, zones, statutory bodies and apostolate groups.
The President, Laity Council of the Parish, Mr Paul Okereke noted that 92 persons were honoured with awards of excellence and as Ambassadors.
``The awardees are the pillars of the Parish, they made it what it is to date and have in one ways or the other made impact in the parish, morally and financially,” he said.
Two of the awardees, Mr Leonard Alachulam and Mr Longinus Ibejiaku in their different remarks described the award as honour that had taught them to keep doing good.
Alachulam maintained: ``serving God is a continuous thing”, while urging Christians to always put in their best in serving Him.
The event featured cutting of the silver jubilee cake, fund raising and cultural display by block rosary children. (MOI)
