Awka, Nov. 28, 2017 -- Anambra State government has presented 13 operational vehicles and 20 motor bikes to the Anambra State Police Commander, Civil Defence Corps, and vigilance groups in the state.
The beneficiaries are the Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC and the Anambra State Vigilance Services.
The Police were allocated five vehicles, the vigilance groups three, while the Civil Defence Corps were presented five vehicles with additional 20 motor bikes, to boost operational capacity.
The presentation was in line with the efforts of Obiano administration to further provide security and ensure safety of lives and property.
Presenting the vehicles at the Governor's Lodge, Amawbia, Gov. Willie Obiano said the vehicles and motorbikes would boost operational capacity of security agencies, especially this yuletide season.
Gov. Obiano noted the vehicles were in partnership with the INNOSON Manufacturing Company, which according to him was in line with his policy of `Aku luo uno’.
``We have trained 200 men who will always be in plain clothes to mingle with crowds to identify miscreants and hoodlums.
The governor re-stated his commitment toward continuing to provide sophisticated equipment to security agencies for eradication of crime and criminality in the state.
``The 100 man-bike units earlier presented to the Anambra State command of the Nigeria Police had assisted in clamping down command and control centres of criminals in the state," Obiano added.
The governor said because of the enormous investments made in securing the area, many groups had indicated their interest to visit the state this yuletide.
In a remark, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Mr Garba Umar pledged to ensure effective utilisation of the vehicles and bikes in combating crime.
Earlier in a speech, the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu stressed that government's intervention in the security sector had enabled the agencies to perform professionally.
In an interview, the Commandant of the NSCDC in the state, Mr John Ahwen praised the Governor for his generous contributions toward improving security in the state.
Chairman of the Anambra State Vigilance Supervisory Committee, Mr Ikechukwu Aduba pledged to offer effective support to community policing in the state.
