Obiano's `Thank You Tour’: A trajectory of trust
By Ikenna Aniagboso
Awka, Jan. 19, 2019 (MOI) Gov. Willie Obiano on Jan. 15, commenced a tour of Anambra State to thank Ndi Anambra for supporting his administration since inception of his 2nd tenure.
The tour which took off from Onitsha was necessitated by the overwhelming support and trust exhibited by Ndi Anambra that resulted in the unprecedented 21/21 victory in the Nov. 17, 2017 polls.
Since then, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), under whose flag the Governor contested has assumed a `Movement’ more than just a political party.
The Onitsha tour has proved to be a rewarding experience for the governor, who witnessed a resurgence of trust reposed in him by the people.
This is evidenced in the teeming crowd of supporters who thronged the venue in solidarity with Akpokuo dike Aguleri.
At the St. Mary's field, Ukpor, Nnewi-South Local Government Area on Jan. 16, there was even another overwhelming crowd, demonstrating even wider acceptance of current Government of Anambra under Gov. Obiano.
The Anambra Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr C Don Adinuba described the governor as a man, abounding in principles, strict in discipline and yet with a heart imbued with a fountain of magnanimity and over-flowing milk of human kindness.
``The dexterous nature of Gov. Obiano and the manner with which he has prudently managed the economy and affairs of the state has consistently set him apart as an outstanding performer.
``His achievements in education, entrepreneurship, road construction, urban/rural development, health, security, the `Community Choose-Your Project Initiative’ and the light-up Anambra project have deeply endeared the governor to the hearts of Ndi Anambra.’’
Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Mrs Rita Maduagwu captures this way: ``Gov. Obiano has done marvelously well in keeping Anambra State united and peaceful’’.
Mrs Maduagwu, who hails from Ukpor, Nnewi South LGA adds: ``the unity, peace and cohesion existing in Anambra is as a result of the governor's commitment toward harmonious co-existence and cooperation among all arms of government – the executive, the legislature and the judiciary.
``Within the executive -- the ministries, parastatal agencies and the virtually all the security agencies, have all been working seamlessly for the progress of the state.
``This has greatly improved the performance of all the units of government resulting in increased efficiency and economic advancement of the state.’’
The gap between leaders and the people is often caused by bad, irresponsible and unresponsive leadership which culminates into disillusionment with the followership.
But, this is, however, different in Anambra, where every gap that may have existed in the past, have been bridged effectively by the Obiano administration.
The governor's `people-oriented projects’ and speedy interventions in every area of need in the state has brought the people closer to the government.
Worthy of mention are the governor's interventions when floodwaters wrecked havoc in many communities, particularly in Anambra East and West, parts of Ayamelum and Ogbaru during the last rainy season.
There have also been interventions in communities ravaged by erosion, menace as well as support to farmers, provision of enabling environment for businesses and investments to subsist.
This has helped to keep the Anambra State’s economy strong and vibrant. The improved security architecture of the Government no doubt helped in no small measure to keep criminals and criminality at bay.
A former Anambra Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism and BoT member, APGA, Chief Maja Umeh says of the Governor: ``Gov. Obiano is a great political leader, endowed with sagacity, humility and forthrightness’’.
Umeh, a high chief in Amichi, Nnewi-South LGA noted that it is these rare qualities that have earned him the love of Ndi Anambra and made his political journey `a trajectory of trust’.
``Gov. Willie Obiano has come to thank us today, but the truth is that we are the ones thanking him for not betraying the trust reposed in him by Ndi Anambra.
``He has succeeded in making Anambra a peaceful, secure and prosperous state.’’
Chief Umeh adds: ``Ndi Nnewi-South and indeed Ndi Anambra are happy. The Governor has done well’’.
A prominent philosopher, John C Maxwell has often been quoted as saying: ``leaders must be close enough to relate to others, but far enough ahead, to motivate them’’.
Gov. Obiano is no doubt close enough to his
people. He has also provided inspiration and motivation, especially to Ndi
Anambra youths. It is only fair they follow his exemplary leadership style and
quality to attain enviable heights. (MOI)
