NO ROOM FOR CRIMINALS, FAKE NEWS PROMOTERS IN ANAMBRA ORDERS NEWLY POSTED CP

Amawbia (Awka South LGA), July 11, 2019(MOI) Newly deployed Commissioner of Police to Anambra State, Mr John Bassey Abang says there is no room for criminals and fake news purveyors in Anambra.
``Under my tenure, the emphasis here will be on fashioning security measures to fight crime and criminality in the state,’’ Abang said while addressing senior officers and journalists at Police Headquarters, Awka.
He said he was determined to clampdown on command and control centres of all criminals operating in Anambra.
Former Commissioner, Mr Dan Daura Mustapha has been redeployed to Rivers State as new CP.
Abang, the 28th CP so far to serve in the state warned criminals to flee from the state, as he was committed to sustaining the peace already existing in the state; ``I will work to ensure the state remains the safest in the country’’.
The commissioner noted that the command should reinvigorate the Operation Puff Adder and would give it more bite to tackle cultism, robbery and kidnapping particularly.
He added that efforts would be made to use Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) strategies and Community Policing Principles in some solving specific problems.
``On assumption of duty within the last 24 hours, I have been fully briefed on a few criminal and security challenges in the state at the moment.’’
These are mainly disputes over land, menace of one chance robbery gangs, robbery, kidnapping and cultism.
``In keeping with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, to make Nigeria safer and more secure for economic development and growth, the command under my watch shall have zero tolerance for crime.
He adds: ``all our efforts and energies shall be mobilised toward prevention of crimes and successful apprehending criminals that will want to test our resolve.
``Another menace is spread of fake news, which has capacity to cause widespread disaffection, chaos, violence or disruption of public peace.
``May I also use this medium to warn purveyors of such news through whatever means, to desist henceforth; or face the full wrath of the law whenever they are apprehended.
``I am not unmindful of other challenges bordering on professional misconduct of officers and men, such as extortion, unlawful/over detention and incivility to members of the public.
``I urge all personnel under my command to eschew corruption and indiscipline.
``The command will sustain existing inter-agency collaboration and improve our respect for the Rule of Law and fundamental Human Rights in accordance with international best practices.’’
He commended the state government for supporting the police command.
