MONEY TO OCHANGA FIRE VICTIMS IS MITIGATE LOSES – ANAMBRA GOVERNMENT
By Juliana Nwachukwu :
Ogidi (Idemili North LGA), Nov. 29, 2019 (MOI) Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra says the money given to Ochanja fire victims are to mitigate their loses.
According to the Governor, it is not really to pay them back but merely as palliative to encourage them to restart their business again; no matter how little, the money can help.
Gov. Obiano was represented by his Deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke.
The Governor said this at the dedication and inauguration of the ultra modern extension of Building Materials International Market, Ogidi.
He said that N1m each was given to the families of the deceased; N200, 000 to eight of the 10 injured persons while N500,000 was given to the remaining two because of the seriousness of their injuries, covering their hospital bills.
The sum of N100, 000 each was given to the 763 people that lost their goods.
He implored traders to desist from fighting fire fighters, who rally to do their jobs; no matter how late they arrive, as they might still save life and property.
He also urged them to stop street/road trading to avoid road mishaps, advising them to move inside the market as there were empty shops there.
Obiano said that fire fighting trucks had been delivered to Ochanja Market as well as the sinking of boreholes, so as to stop a reoccurrence of such incidences. (MOI)
