Health commissioner receives assessment team from Federal Ministry of Health

Awka, Sept. 16, 2020 (MOI) Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr Vincent Okpala says the assessment of warehouses by a team from the Federal Ministry of Health to Anambra State is a welcome development.

The warehouses are for storage of drugs and other medical supplies.

Dr Okpala received the assessment team, who were in the state to carry out baseline assessment of zonal warehouses in his office at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat Complex, Awka.


The commissioner said that the exercise would help to ensure standards in the warehouses as well as guarantee good storage of drugs and for effective distributions.

He explained that standard warehouse and effective drug distribution were essential in the healthcare system strengthening and assured them of his collaboration.

``We are determined to improve on what we have on ground with regard to warehouse and we will support you so that you will achieve your objectives.’’

Leader of the Team, Mrs Francis Okosi said that the visit was part of ongoing assessment of Zonal Warehouses in various locations across the various states in the country.

``We are on nationwide baseline assessment of Zonal Warehouses including places like Abuja, Awka Central Medical Stores, Jigawa and Calabar.

``This will help us to identify gaps in the warehouses with regard to effective storage and distribution of Pharmaceutical products in Nigeria.’’

Mrs Okosi, a Scientific Officer explained that the intention was for states to have Pharmaceutical top grade warehouses for an effective drug distribution system in infrastructure and human resources.  

In attendance at the visit include State Director Pharmaceutical Services, Mrs Edith Egbuonu and some staff members of the Federal Ministry of Health. (MOI)
