GOVERNOR’S AID EMPOWERS OGBUNIKE YOUTHS, HOSTS UNITY CUP
By John Ndu :
Ogbunike, Jan. 10, 2020 (MOI) A Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Anambra State Governor on Transportation, Mr Samuel Odinye has presented various items to some youths in Ogbunike to support nurturing of their skills.
Some of the items include tile cutters, welding machines and undisclosed cash.
The event took place at the field of Okolomesike Primary School, Ifite Village, Ogbunike, during the 3rd edition of the final match of Ifite Ogbunike Unity Cup.
The football match, which commenced during the Yuletide season ended this January, having the five clans in Ifite village participate.
The winner, Umucheke Clan went home with a trophy and cash prize of N100, 000. The second, Onyeama also received N50, 000 while third place winners, Okpalaeze took home N30, 000.
The other participating clans received consolation cash prizes of N10, 000 each.
Mr Odinye, who had been the sponsor of the soccer competition, said Gov. Willie Obiano created various business opportunities for youths to actualise their goals.
Odinye noted that Government revamped sports in Anambra, which provided opportunities for communities in the state to host football tournament among their youths.
The SSA said that he was motivated to unite the youths, to take them off the streets, in line with Governor’s vision and mission.
According to him, I am not in any competition with anyone. I am doing this not because I have money, no, I don't; but because I have passion for the youth of my community.
``I accepted you people when almost everyone rejected you. You are my children and will never abandon you. I will continue to support you people.
``I urge you not to be distracted, but focus on unifying the interest of Ifite Ogbunike. Preach the gospel of love and unity among you,’’ Odinye added.
It was gathered that Mr Odinye had earlier procured sets instruments for the school band to Okolomesike Primary School and Nkwo Central School, as well as offered scholarships to some indigent pupils and students at Orient Special School, Ogbunike.
Reacting, one of the beneficiaries who received tile cutter, Somto Okoye said he had learnt tilling for years, but could not afford to purchase his tool.
Okoye expressed gratitude to Mr Odinye, praying God to grant him his (Odinye) heart’s desires so as to fully actualise his dreams.
Coach of the winning team, Umucheke, Ndubuisi Ikegwuru, noted that his team had won the cup three consecutive times previously and would continue to be victorious.
Ikegwuru commended the SSA for finding faith in the future of the youths, saying Ifite youth in The Diaspora had every reason to come home during Christmas season.
According to him, Odinye is the Governor that we see here. He has empowered our Youths and exposed us to different skills.
``We are happy we have somebody like him,’’ Ikegwuru
