Government re-assures of support to FRSC

Awka, Sept. 6, 2018 (MOI) Anambra State Government has reassured of continued support to Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), in the state.
Gov. Willie Obiano made this known during the 2018 annual stakeholders meeting in Awka.
The meeting with theme: ``Improving Road Safety in Anambra State: The Role of Stakeholders’’ attracted Service Chiefs, students and traders in the state.
The governor, who was represented by Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport, Daniel Ezeanwu emphasised that government would always be in partnership with the state Command of the Corps.
``This will aid in providing necessary facilities that will ensure safety,” he said.
The Sector Commander, Mr Sunday Ajayi said the event marked Road Safety Week, which would provide opportunity to brainstorm on current road safety policies, challenges and charting the way forward.
He noted that it was also geared toward re-awakening the consciousness of road users.
``It is germane to note that we have on record, 116 road traffic crashes, 47 deaths and 335 injuries in Anambra between the months of January and August.
``This makes it compelling to convene this gathering,’’ Ajayi explained.
He commended Gov. Willie Obiano for his innumerable support to the Command, which had enhanced the performance of the Corps in the state.
``Gov. Obiano has donated 136 Raincoats to the Command to carry on our duties during the rainy season.
``The gesture has been preceded by provision of three motorbikes and repair of the Command's damaged Tow Truck,’’ Ajayi explained.
Chairman of the Occasion, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh and the Traditional Ruler of Awka, Igwe Gibson Nwosu called for self-consciousness and imbibing patience while driving.
