Government, committed to quality healthcare in Anambra

Awka, Aug. 9, 2019 (MOI) Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra has reassured of his commitment toward ensuring quality healthcare services in the state.

Gov. Obiano said this while inaugurating newly built multi-million Naira Oxygen Gas Production plant tagged `Ikuku Ndu’ at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOTH), Amaku, Awka.

The event coincided with his 64th birthday og the Governor.

The plant, which was sited within the premises of COOUTH, was unveiled by Gov. Obiano.

The facility, with capacity to produce 52 cubic metres of oxygen per hour would meet the needs of health facilities in Anambra and neighbouring states.

The Governor said that health remained one of the priorities of his administration, saying that two cylinders of the oxygen be given free of charge to each of the primary healthcare centres and government hospitals across the state.

Obiano pointed out that his government revamped not less than 500 primary health centres, as well as renovated and equipped three major General Hospitals at Onitsha, Ekwulobia and Enugwu Ukwu.

Meanwhile, the governor approved the promotion of doctors and nurses to ensure better service delivery to citizens.

He pledged to support NMA in pursuit of cancer management centre in the state.

Managing Director of the Plant, Dr Onyeka Ibezim, who described oxygen as vital to sustaining life, said the state-of-the-art oxygen production facility was 95 per cent purified.

Chairman, Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Anambra, Dr Ndudi Muonagor commended the governor for his strides in the health sector, noting that the state had the best immunisation plan in the country.

Commissioner for Health, Dr Vincent Okpala said the event had underscored Gov. Obiano's achievements in the health sector.

In a remark, Medical Director, COOUTH, Dr Basil Nwankwo commended the Governor for investing heavily in revamping the health sector in the state.

Dignitaries that graced the occasion include Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, wife of the governor, Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Mr Uche Okafor, Secretary to State Government, Prof Solo Chukwulobelu.

Others are a former governor, Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife and a former Deputy Governor, Emeka Sibeudu and Chief of Staff, Mr Primus Odili. (MOI)
