GOOD SHEPHERD SUNDAY: CHRISTIANS URGED TO PRAY FOR GIFT OF PRESENCE, COMPANIONSHIP TOO
By Regina Igwebuike
Amawbia (Awka South LGA), May 13, 2019 (MOI) Christians have been urged to pray for gift of presence and companionship with their neighbours.
These are precious gifts that only time can purchase out of love.
Rev. Fr. Patrick Okafor, Priest in Residence at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, Amawbia said this during homily to mark Good Shepherd Sunday.
Okafor noted that Jesus Christ always spent time with his Apostles, which made them to know and hear his voice, saying that people, who love themselves cherish companionship.
He enjoined Christians to always welcome, walk and stay with people as God endowed each person with different gifts.
``Do not so much pick and choose people to be in good terms with, rather, give everybody equal opportunity to belong no matter who and how the person is.
``Don’t abandon anybody but let your presence be felt positively wherever you are by sacrificing for the good of others.’’
The cleric emphasised that a good shepherd must be humble, always ready to serve others, thereby living an exemplary life worthy of emulation.
Okafor, while noting that harvest were many but, labourers few, prayed God to look after his flock by sending shepherds after his own mind.
He also prayed that Catholic Priests might serve the Lord with gladness and lead the people with courage, thereby bringing the truth to all parts of the world.
He, then, advocated that catholic families might
support vocations to the priesthood, praying Good Shepherd to lead `the dead to
living water and wipe all tears from their eyes’. (MOI)
