Onitsha, April 13, 2018-- The Federal Government of Nigeria has continued to demonstrate readiness to partnering Anambra, to harness the potential that abound in the State's Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises, MSMSE.

The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo said this during the closing ceremony of the National MSME Clinic in Onitsha.

The two-day event organized by the Office of the Vice President in conjunction with Anambra State Government, aims at creating the platform for MSMEs in the State to present their successes and challenges before the government and other stakeholders whose responsibility is to re-shape their operations for the better

 Vice President Osinbajo said the essence of the programme was to improve the lives of the people and offer veritable opportunity to small and medium enterprises to have access to loan.

He added that the idea of the clinic is to demonstrate the Federal Government's resolve to address the challenges facing the critical subsector.

The Vice President noted that since the establishment of MSMEs last year, many small business agencies had benefited immensely and had expanded their businesses to a higher level. 

He commended Gov. Obiano administration for establishing the Anambra State' Small Business Agency (ASBA) and the lofty achievements it had recorded.

 He also harped on the need for the agency to tap into the idea of shared facilities initiated through the clinic to assist MSMEs with low financial strength

“Anambra State is well recognized as a leading manufacturing hub and home of commerce in the country. The Federal Government will assist to create more industrial clusters across the state," Osinbajo said.

In his address, the State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano said the prime purpose of the gathering was to exchange ideas that would stimulate activities in the MSME sector in Anambra State.  

Gov. Obiano added that the initiative was properly aligned to what his administration had done with commitment in the past four years.

"A look at the sterling achievements of the Anambra Small Business Agency (ASBA) in the past four years will provide an insight into what Anambra can offer. The Agency has competently handled the disbursement of the One Billion Naira Retail Lending Facility for Small and Medium Enterprises to catalyze the growth of over 200 SMEs and create over 1,500 direct jobs and 10,000 indirect jobs in Anambra State. 

 "The Agency also saw to the effective disbursement of One Billion Naira Micro Credit Lending to market women, farmers, women cooperatives, artisans and youth entrepreneurs in Anambra State. 

"In all, ASBA has provided crucial credit facilities to 7,000 MSMEs in Anambra State and created 10,000 direct jobs and an estimated 35,000 indirect jobs in the past four years. Your Excellency, I think this is significant progress,” Obiano remarked.

The Special Adviser to the President on Social Investments Programme, Hajiya Mariam Uwais noted that Anambra State is presently benefiting from four programmes under the Social Investments programme namely N-Power, School Feeding, Conditional Cash Transfer and GIIP.

The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Primus Odili commended the Vice President's consistent efforts to support the State's developmental strides irrespective of party affiliations.

He added that such demonstrates his understanding that nation building is a collective responsibility. 

Others who visited Anambra alongside the Vice President include  the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige and his Industry, Trade and Investments Counterpart, Mr Okey Enelama, The Special Adviser to the President on Social Investments Programme, Hajiya Mariam Uwais,  among other dignitaries.
