EZEIFE RAISES ALARM OVER STATE OF EMERGENCY

Awka, Nov. 14, 2017 -- A former civilian Governor of Anambra State, Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife has condemned the action of some youths have been campaigning for `no election’ in Anambra State.


According to him this will jeopardise their lives if they boycott the election. 


Ezeife who made the assertion while addressing some journalists in Awka said the election would determine the future of the state. 

While expressing concern for future generation, the former governor bemoaned plans by some desperate politicians to hijack the voices of the masses. 


He urged citizens to embark on prayers for a transparent gubernatorial election in Anambra.


The call became necessary to ensure the protection of the nation's democracy through emergence of the people's choice.


``A transparent election will promote peace and development, while electoral manipulation can only breed anarchy and break down of law and order. 


``Those promoting that election should not be conducted in the state, should know that the consequences may lead imposition of state of emergency in the state,” Ezeife added. 


He condemned growing incidence of monetary inducement in politics and urged the electorate to endeavour to vote according to their conscience.


The former governor, then, called for the restructuring of the country, stressing that the measure would promote equity, justice and fairness.
