AUTO-SPARE PARTS MARKET ELECTION, FREE, FAIR SAYS -- PG ASMATA

Onitsha, Feb. 8, 2020 (MOI) President-General, Anambra State Market Amalgamated Traders Association (ASMATA), Mr Ikechukwu Ekwegbalu, has declared election of officers into the executive committee of Auto-Spare Parts Market, Nkpor, as largely free and fair.
Mr Ekwegbalu said this after the election of the market executive, which took place at Bethany House Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity, Onitsha.
``When I came for this exercise, I was very serious. I went round the place, listened to names that were mentioned, monitored the election, and ensured that everything went well,’’ he said.
Director of Market, Mrs Josephine Eboh-Nwosu, thanked the traders for the successful conduct of the election and prayed that God would bless them.
She also said that she was happy that it was hitch-free exercise and congratulated newly-elected executive members.
Newly-elected Chairman, Mr Elisius Umeozokwelu, thanked the traders for their participation and orderly conduct during the polls.
He said that the number of participants in that election outnumbered those of stalemated Jan. 16 election.
Umeozokwelu then thanked security operatives for maintaining peace and guaranteeing fair play during the polls.
He thanked journalists for calling government’s attention to the problems at the market, which were resolved to pave way for the successful conduct of the election.
Mr Umeozokwelu pledged that he and his executive would improve the infrastructure of the market and turn its fortune around.
The committee is as follows: Mr Umeozokwelu, Chairman; Mr Ikechukwu Onyegwu, Vice-Chairman; Mr Uchenna Manobi, Secretary; Mr Christopher Okeke, Assistant Secretary.
Others are Mr Alexander Orji, Financial Secretary; Mr Ignatius Ezike, Treasurer; Mr Chukwujekwu Nwankwo, PRO; Mr Ikechukwu Ikegbunam, Social Welfare Officer and Mr Okechukwu Onwudiwe, Circular Bearer.
Mr Chidi Obiegbu, Zonal Chairman ASMATA, Oyi Local Government Area conducted the swearing in ceremony on the new team.
He urged them to discharge their duties with fear of God. (MOI)
