Awka, Jan. 21, 2020 (MOI) Managing Director, Anambra State Waste Management Authority (ASWAMA), Mr Amechi Akorah has cautioned the public against indiscriminate disposal of refuse in some parts of the state.

The caution has become necessary in a bid to ensure healthy living among the citizenry.

Mr Akorah, while speaking with newsmen in Awka stressed that cleanliness was essential for healthy living.

He emphasized that they had stopped little children from disposing refuse because they could not bag and dispose them properly in ASWAMA waste bins because of their age.

``We have made it clear that if we get hold of any child under 12 years disposing refuse, we will arrest the parents.

``It is disheartening that some people still dump refuse on the roads and in drainage channels in spite of efforts of government toward maintenance of clean and healthy environment.’’

Mr Akorah noted that maintenance of clean environment was a collective responsibility, saying that environment ``we neglect today will take revenge on us tomorrow’’.

``The time approved by the agency for disposing of refuse is 5.00 pm to 6.00 am. People should adhere to the instruction for more effective service delivery.’’

The ASWAMA boss, then, urged Ndi Anambra to imbibe the right attitude toward waste disposal, ``we have ensured that waste bins are placed at various locations to ease waste collection’’. (MOI)
