ASSEMBLY PASSES BILL TO ESTABLISH CLEAR DRAINAGE, FOREST PRESERVATION AGENCY

Awka, Feb. 14, 2020 (MOI) Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a bill for law to establish Anambra State Clear Drainage and Forest Preservation Agency and Related Matters.
The bill sponsored by Executive Arm of Government was passed during the plenary on Feb. 13.
Speaker of the House, Mr Uchenna Okafor, who presided over plenary read out the bill for the third time, while the lawmakers unanimously adopted it through voice votes.
According to the Speaker, a defaulter shall be liable on conviction pay a fine of N100, 000 (hundred thousand naira) or six months imprisonment or both.
``That is the resolution of the House; we further read the short title and commencement puissant to the resolution of the first committee of the whole.
``We made some amendments and then carried most of the clauses,’’ he posited.
Majority Leader, Mr Nnamdi Okafor had presented the bill to be read a third time and for its final passage.
The passage of the bill was sequel to consideration of the report of the House Committee on Environment at the committee of the whole.
The bill seeks to establish the Anambra State Clear Drainage and Forest Preservation Agency for the purpose of ensuring clean drainage system, sewages and maintaining forests in the state. (MOI)
